GRANDFATHERING OF THIRD-LEVEL .CN NAMES
CNNIC implemented a "grandfathering" policy to allow existing registrants of third-level .CN domain names to secure their second-level .CN name equivalent. For example, the registrant of mydomain.com.cn had the opportunity to secure mydomain.cn prior to the March 2003 launch. This policy was only available to third level names registered prior to December 6, 2002. The grandfathering process was utilized between January 6, 2003 and February 28, 2003.
